Ground Equipment: Design, construction, coordination

Support throughout the entire process chain

To paraphrase a quotation from Bismarck, "The production of production resources is the art of the possible". This is true at least in the field of aircraft construction, as our AVIATION specialists from the Jigs & Tools department know from experience.

At Airbus Germany, these specialists look after a range of tasks that extend from the design of simple production resources to the provision of complex pieces of equipment. Among these tasks are design, construction and coordination, so that at the end of the process chain the finished equipment can be handed over to the customer.

The term "equipment" in this sense refers to small gauges and lifting harnesses (special straps/ropes), but also to shipping frames and large construction areas in which complete fuselage segments or aircraft are assembled. In the case of major construction projects such as those necessary for the A380, AVIATION staff either work directly on the concept of the production resources or examine this concept with respect to its technical feasibility. Afterwards, they determine together with the production department how the concept is to be implemented. After drawing up the specification, the actual project management phase begins. The production resources are put out to tender or procured on the open market in line with the schedule and budget.

The work involved in production resource design repeatedly confronts FERCHAU's specialists with new topics and challenges. To ensure its engineers are properly qualified to perform this work, FERCHAU AVIATION provides on-the-job training and courses in CAD and project management.
